Dreadball: Helheim Hoarders

In the darkest reaches of the Forge Father’s Star Empire, lay those blackened souls who have forgone their ancient oaths, giving in to a lust for rare and precious things. These individuals hail from Helheim, the desolate home of one of the most ruthless of all the Forge Father clans.

Front row: Strikers, with MVP Gorim Ironstone in the centre.
Back row: Guards (left), Jacks (right) and my makeshift coach in the centre.

These twisted dwarves lead a piratical life, laying siege to the worlds of Corporation and alien alike in a mad dash to aquire more booty to be stowed within great vaults in the subterranean cities of their people. Tales tell of rivers of gold coins, monuments to their ancestral founders crafted from pure unobtainium.

It is fair to say, that they live in excess, yet still for all their wealth, they are never satisfied. Their hunger for more, can never be sated.

These guys don’t know Jack! *Badum-tish!*

And so, it seems, to fuel their lust for all things material, many of their number have begun taking part in the celebrated Corporation-based sport of Dreadball. Their team, the Helheim Hoarders, though new to the scene and quickly raking up a reputation as being brutal and relentless. So, a clear crowd favourite then!

In a rare interview with the Dreadball sports coverage team, Helheim Huscarl Lokir had this to say:

We are the heralds of Ragnarok, the bringers of doom. War is in our blood, in fact deathcries swim more freely through our veins. We are also very into competitive sports. What?

Ready to Ragnarok and roll!

As you can see, I’ve been steadily painting up my team, but they’re not quite finished yet. I envisioned the Helheim Hoarders as a team of Forge Father pirates, not necessarily evil, but certainly violent and obsessed with gold. As such, their armour is mostly painted in metallics, with the star players featuring more gold than others.

There’s still a long way to go, as you can see in the pictures the guards are mostly untouched and the jacks and strikers still don’t have flesh painted. None of them have been washed or shaded yet either, nor have they received numbers. Most of my reason for this was a serious concern about how they were turning out. I wasn’t sure if I liked the look, and at the end of the day, as my team, I want the Helheim Hoarders to look like the guys that I want to play.

The strangest Spice World parody I have ever seen.

What do you think? Does the look of these blackhearted pirates appeal to you? Or do you have any suggestions on ways I could improve them?
